Accessible Computer Training

ACT Program for Blind and Visually Impaired Computer Users

Eliminate the mystery of the computer! This is not a traditional computer course, but a relaxed environment with professional assistance. The ACT Program is designed as an introductory course to offer basic computer training to anyone who is blind or visually impaired. This is an excellent curriculum for introduction to computers, and includes basic Windows, word processing, Internet and email skills, using a screen reader or magnification program.

BECOME A TUTOR! The ACT Program of GDABVI trains accessible computer software users to tutor people who are blind and visually impaired at the libraries for the blind in Detroit and Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. Qualified applicants must possess practical skills for using a screen reading or magnification program. A week or more of training is required to introduce teaching techniques. Upon successful completion of the program, there is a possibility of receiving a stipend or you may elect to work on a volunteer basis.
