2007 Summer Dreams Program Announcement

“I want to make a child’s Summer Dream come true!”

Dear Friends of Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind and Visually Impaired,

picture of Cheryl Cheryl, a young teen, attends GDABVI’s annual summer day camp for youths with visual impairments. While at camp, she’s learned judo, which has improved her balance, posture, and spatial awareness. It also helps her conduct her daily activities with more mobility and confidence.

Cheryl enjoyed her experience at camp so much that she joined a judo club in Farmington. She now interacts weekly with sighted youngsters and has used judo to grow physically, emotionally and socially.

GDABVI’s summer camp has once again been selected for inclusion in the Detroit Free Press and Skillman Foundation 2007 Summer Dreams matching grant program. Donations received will support our summer camp for children and youth with visual impairments.

We are asking you to give a gift today! Your donation will help to provide transportation, specialized recreational equipment, back packs, t-shirts, field trip admissions, independent living kits, and camperships. This year’s goal is $21,500 and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $1,500 –that means a donation of $100 will be matched with an additional $100 towards our goal. Matching funds are limited, so please act soon!

Please make checks payable to CHILDREN FIRST with GDABVI on the memo line. Kindly mail your check to: Children First, c/o GDABVI, 16625 Grand River Avenue, Detroit, MI 48227. Contributions can also be made online at www.freep.com/summerdreams. Feel free to contact us with questions or for additional information at 313-272-3900.
