Director of Program Services
The Director of Program Services is a full time professional position and a
member of the management team.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general direction of the CEO, has responsibility to: Supervise GDABVI program
services in Rehabilitation Therapy (Disabling Conditions, AAA Senior Programs), agency
service programs for children, other client services, and consumer related programs;
Manage and increase funding relationships with United Way of Southeastern Michigan, state
and federal grants and other contracts; and identify new funding sources with other
management staff; Seek new opportunities to serve clients and the community and advocate
for the needs of blind and visually impaired children and adults.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
a.
Recruit, orient, supervise and provide leadership and advocacy to the staff of all
GDABVI client service programs. Assist program staff in setting annual performance objectives
and conduct periodic individual performance appraisals.
b.
Oversee the integration of services so that a GDABVI client and family members may move
from one program to another in a seamless process, as applicable; recommend to the CEO and
other management staff policies and procedures to improve staff utilization and services
offered to clients.
c.
Oversee the client statistical database for accurate and confidential documentation of
service delivery. Ensure that the database is able to produce accessible information for
required reports and billing for service reimbursement if applicable.
d.
Oversee the planning, implementation, reporting, and evaluation of government grants and
contracts for program services; oversee the planning, allocation requests, implementation,
reporting, and evaluation processes for applicable funded relationship(s); advocate for
GDABVI with state offices/agencies and appropriate advocacy organizations. Participate
in the negotiation and monitoring of fee-for-service contracts as required; with program
staff, identify new revenue and funding opportunities. Ensure that fees and costs are
being billed appropriately.

Participate in the Agency’s annual budgeting process and long-range planning process.

Maintain awareness of trends and developments in the field of blind rehabilitation and
encourage staff to increase their knowledge through professional reading, participation in
appropriate professional organizations, and targeted visits to organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree or equivalent experience in management or related field (Masters of
Vision Rehabilitation or related degree preferred); five or more years successful
supervisory and management experience. Excellent oral and written communication
skills. Experience in vision rehabilitation therapy services and nonprofit
organizations preferred.
