Computerized Braille Tutor
The Computerized Braille Tutor is a DOS-based program for teaching Braille, beginning
with the basics of letters and punctuation on through the contractions that make up grade
2 Braille. This program can be run on a standard DOS computer or under Microsoft Windows
or Windows 95 in a "DOS box." This program is really intended for sighted users
because it uses special display effects to permit showing braille on the screen.
However, a blind person can access some of the files making up the tutorial for purposes
such as assisting a sighted person in learning Braille.
We have posted this tutorial as a standard ZIP archive which may be extracted with PKUNZIP, WinZIP, or any other program compatible with zip-files. The zip-file is small enough to fit on a 720K floppy disk, but, when extracted, it may take up a great deal more space on your hard disk depending on how space is allocated on your disk. The authors suggest a nominal amount of hard disk space of about five megabytes. Please note that this is a binary file. For best results, we recommend right-clicking on the following link and then choosing an option something like "Save this file to disk as ..." from the menu that is displayed. This approach should work in either Netscape or Internet Explorer. For other browsers, please use whatever option you have available for saving a binary file to disk rather than opening the file in your browser on screen.
